There are practically sparks flying off of the pages of this book. Ava also has really good relationships with her boss and clients! Anyway, it was just so refreshing to see a character, with the kind of sob story Ava has, have an actually good supportive circle. I love that we get to see Ava pause and check in on her friend, text her friend gushing and that Harper doesn’t exist only as a plot device. I love that their friendship feels so genuine and that Harper is such a prominent part of the book. In particular, I loved Ava’s relationship with Harper. Young has put in a lot of effort to develop these relationships and make them feel real. This is, hands down, the best thing about this book. – Ava’s relationships with the people around her. While keeping that in mind, I am breaking down this review into the good and the bad. I mean, the book wasn’t perfect aside from the thing but I was still enjoying it so it sucks. Let me back up here for a sec tho, for the first couple chapters I was NOT a fan but the book started growing on me a lot but then a THING happened and I ended up extremely disappointed and sad. I went it basically hoping I wouldn’t hate it and unfortunately, things didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. Fight or Flight started off as a book that I didn’t expect too much from. Okay so we are diving right into this review because I have a lot to process and break down. But even if she does decide to risk her heart on Caleb, there is no guarantee her stubborn Scot will want to risk his heart on her. When his stay in Boston becomes permanent, Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings for him or give into them. Not long thereafter Ava realizes she's made a terrible error because as it turns out Caleb Scott isn't quite so unlikeable after all. Ava agrees, knowing her heart's in no danger since a) she barely likes Caleb and b) his existence in her life is temporary. When pure chance pulls Ava back into Caleb's orbit, he proposes they enjoy their physical connection while he's stranded in Boston. And that's all it was-until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.

Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava's ever had. Her last ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn't hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. I received this book for free from Berkley in exchange for an honest review.
